BI vendors are finding out what a Hell two or three good years can be. It is simply raining competition in the marketplace. First, Siebel, SAP, and Lawson decide to add more BI capabilities and even standalone BI products to their offerings. Then IBM, Microsoft, and Oracle increase the amount and breadth of their free BI offerings such that IBM and Microsofts free giveaways match or exceed the best stack of BI offering from traditional vendors like Business Objects, Cognos and Hyperion. And now Open Source BI vendors are entering the report writing market (2) and data warehousing/ETL space. Who said it doesnt rain, it pours competition when the good times start to appear in an IT marketplace?
