I am pleased as pink to say that Mozillas FireFox browser with its new Preview edition has seen 1.6M downloads since it was announced last week. It has averaged 1 million downloads per 100 hours. And since this note is being written in the FireFox browser I can report:
)the download at 4.5MB is as fast as the install – 5 minutes max;
)the browser is consistently fast – no timings yet, just a feel;
)it has a convenient download manager;
)it has a nifty plugins manager with a fair selection of plugins available already;
)it has tabbed windows but not collabsible or tilable like Opera;
)it has a great set of debugging tools for JavaScript, DOM, and CSS;
)it has a search toolbar for Google;
)it has a powerful find function with highlighting;
)it runs in Linux, Windows, and Mac;
)it squashes unwanted popups and … dare I say its fast!
So join the groundswell – replace the obsolete and security-plagued IE browser from the company that is openly attacking the Web interface. Replace IE with Firefox which is continuing to innovate with new support for gestures, XML, and forms in the pipeline. Click on the button and make a smart switch. You will be glad you did.
