One of the most vexing yet hilarious parts of Samuel Becketts play Waiting for Godot is the sense of suspended direction. It is sort of like waffling animatedly yet it also droll and somewhat depressing. It is sort of like plans without strategy. It is sort of like unstated, unresolved yet contending and still pending executive decisions. It is sort of like a stalemate on what IT direction and commitment should go forward because major players are still wrestling over power and politics. In Standishs CHAOS reports on IT project failure, unfortunately this topic gets short attention. Yet having just discussed three major IT projects in the past few weeks – this is the common blocking point.

The truely bottom line – Information politics is the undoing of many IT projects.
