Apples new Macbook has one virtue: it is earlier than most analysts expected and one great vice: its pricing is laughable. Ostensibly Apple converted over to Intel chips to bring the company into better price/performance ratios relative to Microsoft PCs. But Steve Jobs must be so absorbed in the negotiations with Disney that he has taken up permanent residence in Fantasyland. Look at the following prices for laptops sporting the same Intel Duo Core Yonah chips at roughly the same front side bus speeds:
Apple Macbook – 512MB of memory, 80GB diskpace, ATI Radeon card with 128MB memory, 15.4″TFT screen – $2000
Lenovo Thinkpad60 -512MB of memory, 60GB diskpace, ATI Radeon card with 64MB memory, 14.1″TFT screen – $1700
Gateway NX560XL – 512MB of memory, 60GB diskpace, ATI Radeon card with 128MB memory, 15.4″TFT screen – $1300
Ohh yes, the Windows Media Center XP OS cant possibly match MacOS/X, it only has triple the number of graphics and media applications.
As Bob Barker of the Price Is Right would say – “Apple Stock Price, Come on Down!”
