Vistas Vistas

Today I went to my favorite computer shop in Toronto – its a small, non-franchise place on Yonge just south of King in the heart of downtown. The reason I go here is that I usually have tough problems that the Sogo people have encountered and can solve. .. this time I needed a enclosure for the remains of my Staples Easy Button repair of my laptop – they gave me back just the 2.5″ 40GB hard drive (and a $900 Staples only rebate card).

But I needed the data on that drive – and Sogo had the solution – ME-940 series enclosure with IDE to USB connection – problem solved after testing to make sure it worked properly!

So I asked Mr Chen, who entertains my questions with some degree of tolerance, what was he doing about Vista? Getting ready for all sorts of weird install problems? Stocking more memory and disk drives to accommodate all the users who will need lots more of both to get Vista working ? Getting up to date with all the “People Ready” changes made to Vista, IE 7 and especially Office 2007??

Mr. Chen and Sogo are doing nothing about Vista. He explained:
“Vista goes way beyond what most consumers need. 3D, transparent Windows, huge memory requirements – all to be a bit closer to how safe Windows should have been 10 years ago. It may attract a few hard core users like you – but even the corporate guys wont be buying it. They will play wait and see. And well they should – with all the new drivers and GUI changes – its best to wait and let others figure out the problems. So we will wait until more of our customers ask real questions about Vista – that may be a year or two away”

I thought to ask if Microsoft could do some arm twisting and force corporates and consumers to buy Vista with their new computers … and then I thought better of that question. I thought it best to leave the View on Vista alone.

  1. Hello would you mind stating which blog platform you’re working with? I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a tough time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S Apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
